Thermal
Expansion Tanks
In
recent years, community water suppliers began installing
check valves on water lines going into each home and business.
The check valve is a one way valve to allow water to enter
your home, but not allow possibly contaminated water to
flow back into the water main.
When
water is heated (such as in your home's water heater), it
expands. This phenomenon is known as thermal expansion.
Because the expanded water is not allowed to flow back into
the main, it will build up excessive pressure in your home's
water distribution system. This will, over time, damage
faucets, water heaters, and other fixtures. To remedy
this, a thermal expansion tank is installed near the water
heater. Thermal expansion tanks are required by many
municipalities in new construction.
Backflow
Preventer
Properly installed and operating backflow prevention devices
are important to keeping our drinking water free of contaminants.
Backflow preventers help to eliminate the cross connection
between the drinking water supply and possible contaminated
water sources.
Water
Heater Dip Tubes
A
dip tube in a water heater channels cold water to the bottom
of the water heater tank. Once heated, the water rises
to the top of the tank. When hot water is called for,
it is taken from the top of the tank. In recent years
some water heater models were allowed to leave the factory
with faulty dip tubes which would deteriorate under high
temperatures.
If
you are experiencing excessive debris in your faucet aerator,
or an insufficient amount of hot water, you may have a faulty
dip tube. If you believe you are experiencing a dip
tube related problem, you may call 1-800-329-0561.
Please have the make, model, and serial number available.
The dip tube Claims Administrator will issue a certificate
for a free dip tube replacement and water system flush.
This certificate is redeemable at Maxson Services.
